The annual Cannes Film Festival is one big, glam event that brings together the whole entertainment industry. And since, the world of pageantry is one part of the whole spectrum of entertainment, former beauty queens who turned international celebrities are no exception to the lenses of photo snappers in this one grandiose event.
As of writing, three former beauty queens have walked the red carpet in the French capital of glitz and glamour, namely, Miss World 1994 and Bollywood actress, Aishwarya Rai; Miss Universe 1993 and Puerto Rican actress and model, Dayanara Torres; and Miss Universe 2010, Ximena Navarrete.
The former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai, stepped on the limelight once again, when she posed for photographers at the 2012 amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS held at the Hotel Du Cap last Thursday, May 24. She exuded with confidence and a regal stance that proved her detractors that she is still the ‘most beautiful woman of the world’ wearing a traditional gold and cream sari that magnified her radiant look that night.
After the mind-blowing extravagant look of the actress on that day, she made headlines once more when she walked the red carpet premiere of ‘Cosmopolis’ the following day held at the Palais des Festivals. This time, she wore an Elie Saab long sleeves, navy blue, sheer gown that accentuated her voluptuous figure. She was extremely elegant and sophisticated yet simple when she further completed the ornamental look of the gown with a metallic silver clutch and a pair of diamond studded earrings.
While Miss Rai established a more classy look, former Miss Universe 1993 and Puerto Rico’s pride, Dayanara Torres, donned a more carefree yet subtle look when she was spotted at the Ketchup Entertainment Yacht. She wore a simple pastel pink rope-like strapped dress accented with low-bust wide greyish band. To compliment the fresh and breezy look, she added two classic accessories, a thick bracelet ornamented with various pearls and a pair of triad-flowerette dangling earrings.
In contrast to the sweet, young chic look of Miss Torres, Mexican modelesque queen and Miss Universe 2010, Ximena Navarrete, opted for a Roberto Cavalli signature gown when she walked on the red carpet premiere of ‘Mud’ held at the Palais de Festivals. Her sheath styled gown with several loose golden strands emphasised her hourglass figure. To complete the look on the red carpet, she accessorized with a unique styled tiara and a golden clutch.
Overall, the three former beauty queens, inspired by their stance as pageant divas managed to make the whole Cannes Film Festival a more glitzy event through their appearances.
