Last Friday, April 20, Leila Lopes was named one of the newest ‘Madrina’ (Godmother) of the Latino Commission on AIDS in an event held at the Rayuela in New York. On the other hand, performing artist J’ Martin was named newest ‘Padrino’ (Godfather) of the non-profit organisation.
The Angolan beauty queen joins other three former Miss Universe, namely Ximena Navarrete (2010), Dayana Mendoza (2008), and Stefania Fernandez (2009) to become ‘Madrina’ of the organisation. Being a ‘Madrina’, she commits herself to help increase understanding and awareness of HIV/AIDS by promoting education and preventive measures.
HIV/AIDS is one disease that the Miss Universe Organisation is highly involved in. Aside from the Latino Commission on AIDS, charitable organisations such as the God’s Love We Deliver and YouthAIDS are other non-profit groups that the MUO is supporting.
The Latino Commission on AIDS is a charitable organisation that was established in 1990 by the collaboration of the Latino community and their leaders. Its work is mainly involved in ‘the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS in the Latino community’.
To further help the organisation in its battle against HIV/AIDS, one can support them through donation. Details for giving help to them can viewed by visiting their website, www. latinoaids.org.
