Miss Lopes is also the UNCCD Drylands Ambassador. She and Mr. Luc will be discussing about the need to control and moderate land degradation which is an increasing problem that may result to global food security, climate change and international conflicts amongst nations.

With the dedication of Leila to improve the welfare of women and children in Africa, she has embarked on protecting the soil productivity worldwide. Her cause to curb poverty and hunger amongst women and children mainly in Africa led her to be named Ambassador of UNCCD on January 2012.

The live webcast of the press conference will be on the United Nations Webcast at 15:00 – 15:45 GMT (5:00-5:45 AEDST 27th of March). For the link, click here.
